Healthy Lifestyles

The World Health Organization defines health as "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity" (1946).

Overall, community health is affected by circumstances that go beyond health specifically, to include social, economic, cultural, educational, housing, and employment factors, among others. AICBR's focus reflects health research needs identified by project partners and communities. Having a healthy lifestyle can include for example, prevention of obesity through active living, nutrition, and mental wellness. As such, our priority of Healthy Lifestyles may encompass a broad area of health-related factors. We are interested in hearing about any upcoming events, potential projects or partnerships in this area.

When our organization first started, depression, substance use and residential school trauma were included as three of our early health priorities. The Yukon First Nation Health and Social Commission recognized them as a priority for Yukon.
